Before joining the Tobacco Law Center, Julie served as an Assistant Attorney General with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office for nine years, in the Antitrust Division and Consumer Enforcement Division. As an AAG, she worked on both multistate and Minnesota litigation and investigations of antitrust violations, deceptive marketing practices, and other fraudulent conduct by businesses and individuals, as well as helping to draft legislation, amicus briefs, and consumer education materials. The matters she worked on spanned a variety of industries and practices, including Big Tobacco, Microsoft, Major League Baseball, satellite television companies, mortgage foreclosure rescue scams, subprime credit cards, and living trust mills. Julie has been named a Minnesota “Rising Star” lawyer by Minnesota Law & Politics. She has taught legal writing at the William Mitchell College of Law, and presented at National Association of Attorneys General conferences and other regional conferences and CLEs on antitrust enforcement and predatory lending issues.
As a law student at the University of Iowa College of Law, Julie was awarded the Hubbard Human Rights Award. She also helped to found, and served as the first Editor in Chief for, the Iowa Journal of Gender, Race & Justice.
